For the Leipzig Gymnastics Festival, a new, additional venue called the “Green Corner” was added to the program. As an open, free-to-access space in downtown Leipzig, it offered a diverse range of hands-on activities focused on sustainability and responsible behavior. The goal was to encourage participants and visitors to explore and experiment, to provide concrete ideas for sustainable action, and to offer inspiration for both club activities and personal life.

To implement this, the “Green Corner” was integrated into the event’s overall site planning at an early stage and went through all necessary planning, coordination, and approval processes. This close integration with the overall process allowed us to leverage synergies and, in particular, led to savings on technical equipment.

For the exhibition elements and program items on our stage, we collaborated with many local and regional clubs and stakeholders.

Drawing on their expertise, they offered an engaging and well-rounded program and hands-on activities that we would not have been able to provide in such variety and depth using our own resources alone.

The collaboration with a key contact person from the City of Leipzig, the integration into the Gymnastics Festival app, and the stamp card also played a significant role in the event’s success. Special mention must be made of the volunteers who worked there every day: their dedicated efforts were what made the operation and implementation of the space possible in the first place.

The content of the space was organized through various exhibits and hands-on activities. The following elements are a selection from the exhibition:

• Information booth on the Gymnastics Festival and its sustainability measures
• SDG Mobile by Engagement Global on the Sustainable Development Goals
• Zero Waste Project – booth by Leipzig City Cleaning
• Eco-Trainer – an electric bicycle
• Information booth on our “Sport Fairändert” project
• Information tent with a pop-up exhibition and a variety of informational materials
• “Mobile Green Room” – a place to chill out, which also served as our “Green Stage” for lectures and hands-on activities.

Two special features of the space were funded by the City of Leipzig: the water bench and the Mobile Green Room. The latter enriched the paved city center as a popular meeting place well into the fall. In the summer, the location also served as an event stage for other clubs.

All exhibitors also offered interactive activities on an ongoing basis.

Major sporting events with hundreds of thousands of participants have a unique energy, bringing people together around a shared positive goal.

This highly emotional experience can be effectively leveraged to inform people and introduce them to new ideas and approaches. With this idea and goal in mind, an area dedicated to sustainability and responsible behavior was created.
