DIGITAL SPORTS BADGE - DOSB

REALISATION

The implementation of the digital platform for the German Sports Badge began in 2022 with a participatory development process. In close cooperation with the DOSB, the state sports associations (LSB), and other associations, requirements workshops were first held to identify the needs and requirements of all parties involved. The project was supported by external service providers who were responsible for project management and technical development.

On this basis, agile software development of the platform began in 2023 – also in cooperation with the DOSB, the LSB and associations. The aim was to create a user-friendly and future-proof solution that could be flexibly developed further.

The platform was officially launched in 2024. Since then, its functions and processes have been continuously improved.

At the beginning of 2025, work began on a comprehensive update in collaboration with the state sports associations. The first part of this update was successfully released in May and represents another milestone in the further development of the platform.

BACKGROUND

The German Sports Badge saw a significant drop in registrations as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, the outdated administration system, which was not located at the DOSB, was inefficient – particularly due to the lack of a digital connection between the examiner module and the administration platform. The central sustainability goal was to promote innovation and digitalization, thereby eliminating the use of paper. With around 80,000 registered users (as of August 2025), the new digital platform has made the Sports Badge more modern and efficient.

In addition, young people are increasingly using digital spaces, which has made analog, paper-based processing less attractive.

CHALLENGES

  • Centralization and standardization of processes
  • Increased expectations during the course of the project
  • Training of all employees and auditors in the use of the digital platform
  • Not all state sports associations are participating: 13 LSBs are participating, while Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, and Rhineland-Palatinate are using their own IT systems
